TASTE: Aldgate Ridge 2002 Pinot Noir
The 2002 Adelaide Hills vintage was an absolute ripper and it certainly shows in this latest release from one of the region's most progressive boutique wineries. Crafted by the talented David Powell, it's a wine of finesse and class with a silky smooth tannin structure and classic pinot flavours of raspberry and strawberry. Drink it with roast quail. BOTTLER: Aldgate Ridge 2001 Pinot Noir
I was much impressed when I reviewed the 1999 version of this Adelaide Hills wine and I think this 2001 is even better. It is ruby red in the glass and has scents of violets with a little whiff of Burgundy barnyard. Smooth, elegant cherry and strawberry flavour features on the front of the palate and coffee, cloves and thyme fruit characters meld with subtle spicy oak on the middle palate. The finish has flinty tannins. SEE FULL STORY
